Check Before Running
- Inspect engine and accessories for visible damage
- Drain gear housing and refill with appropriate Quicksilver gear lube (SD)
- Check engine alignment
- Lubricate all grease fittings, splines and couplings
- Lubricate steering cable
- Service battery and terminals
- Inspect fuel lines, fuel filters and connections
- Check all fluid levels
- Check operation of power trim (SD)
- Drive belts – check tension
- Check/reset diagnostic codes (ISE)
- Check engine compression
- Crankcase oil & filter change
Check While Running
- Water pump operation
- Throttle gear shift attachment/operation
- Idle RPM
- Check engine timing
- Operation of steering system
- Operation of gauges and lanyard safety switch
- Check engine operation temp, oil pressure, charge rate
- Check audio warning
- Check ECM diagnostic data
- Check carb adjustment (ISE)
Important
- Spray engine with Quicksilver Corrosion Guard
- Inspect corrosion control anodes/MerCathode (ISE)
Preparation for Storage
- Extended storage procedure complete
- IB = Inboard SD = Sterndrive ISE = If So Equipped
Standard Times
- 4 Cylinder: 2.5 Hours
- V6: 3.0 Hours
- V8 Stern drive: 3.0 Hours
- V8 In board: 1.5 Hours
- In line DIESEL Stern drive: 2.5 Hours
- In line DIESEL In board: 2.0 Hours
- V8 DIESEL Stern drive: 3.0 Hours
- V8 DIESEL In board: 2.5 Hours
NOTE: Additional work may be required dependent on product application and usage.

Check Before Running
- Inspect outboard motor and accessories for visible damage
- Drain gear housing and refill with gear lube
- Lubricate all grease fittings, transom clamp screws, steering cable
- Throttle/shift linkage & propeller/drive shaft splines
- Service battery and terminals
- Torque cylinder head screws to specifications
- Remove and inspect spark plugs
- Check compression
- Inspect fuel tank, fuel lines and connections
- Clean or replace fuel filters
- Check primary & secondary throttle pickup & full throttle stop
- Check power trim system operation, oil level & trim gauge
- Change engine oil level & replace filter (4 stroke only)
- Check & adjust valve clearance, if necessary (4 stroke only)
OPTIMAX MODELS
- Check audible warning system
- Check diagnostic codes
- Check ECM sensors & operation
- Check TPS setting
- Check DFI fuel & air pressure
Check While Running
- Water pressure, operation of water pump and cooling system
- Throttle, gear shift and reverse lock operation
- Carburetor mixture and idle speed
- Operation of oil injection and low oil warning system
- Operation of steering system, remote controls and gauges
Important
- Spray powerhead with Quicksilver Corrosion Guard to protect electric connections & exposed metal surfaces from corrosion
- Inspect corrosion control anodes and system
- Owner should follow recommendations in operation and
- Maintenance Manual until next scheduled service
Standard Times
- 2 – 5: 1 Hour
- 6 – 25: 1.5 Hours
- 30 – 40: 1.7 Hours
- 50-90: 2 Hours
- 100 – 125: 2.5 Hours
- 135 – 250: 3.0 Hours
NOTE: Additional work may be required dependent on product application and usage. Add .5 hour for 4 stroke Optimax.
